I'm a total SC noob. I finally cleared off a lot of space on my hard drive the other day and installed it, but haven't had time to really play yet, not even the campaign.

But, uh... how do you find out what your "character code" is and things? Is all that just for multiplayer play? Like do I not have one until I play multiplayer? Or do you have it as soon as you make a SC2 account?

You have it immediately when you create your account. Remember you only get one shot (they might let everyone change once soon, but ignore that) at your character name and it's NOT unique so it can be whatever you want. Once you pick you get assigned a random 3 digit number (you can see it on your profile).
